The Best Quick & Healthy Ground Turkey Skillet
This is a favorite at our house and is on the menu almost weekly!
When I decide what’s on the menu for the week, there are a few things I look for; nutrient-dense, super-quick, budget-friendly, and flavorful meals. This meal checks all the boxes! You’re going to love this dish!
You can use any type of ground meat. I’ve used lean ground turkey, ground chicken, grass-fed beef, and they were all delicious! Last time I went to the grocery store they were out of sweet potatoes so I used butternut squash and it was just as good! You could easily add other veggies or use whatever you’ve got on hand!
If you are short on time, grab the sweet potatoes or butternut squash that are already chopped and ready to go and the prep on this meal is super quick!
Why brussel sprouts?
You can totally replace the brussel sprouts with another vegetable but I love using brussel sprouts because of all the nutrients they provide. They have protein, fiber, vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin A, folate, manganese, vitamin B6, potassium, iron, thiamine, magnesium and phosphorus. Talk about nutrient dense! I love using foods that are so nutrient rich.
What about sweet potatoes?
Sweet potatoes also contain a lot of nutrients. They are a good source of vitamin C, potassium, vitamin E, vitamin b6, and vitamin b5 and beta carotene. When eaten with a fat, beta carotene is converted into vitamin A. This is where the cheese comes in making it a delicious, nutrient dense meal.
Easy, Quick & Healthy Turkey Skillet
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey lean
- 4 cups sweet potatoes chopped
- 3 cups brussel sprouts halved
- 1/2 cup yellow onion chopped
- 1 clove garlic
- 2 tbsp olive oil extra virgin
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp cumin
- 1/2 cup cheese grated
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Add olive oil and chopped garlic clove, and onion to skillet.
- Cook until onion is translucent.
- Add ground turkey and cook on medium until meat is cooked all the way through
- Sprinkle meat with cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper to your liking. I add about 1-2 tbsp of cumin and 1-2 tbsp chili powder.
- Add sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, and 1/2 cup water to skillet. Cover skillet with a lid and cook about 8-10 minutes or until brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes are soft. Stir occasionally. You may need to add more water to make sure meat doesn’t dry out.
- Once the veggies are cooked I sprinkle on a little more cumin and chili powder. Then top with freshly grated cheese, wait for it to melt and then dig in!
I love that you only need one pan for this meal. It makes cleanup a breeze. Am I the only one who hates doing dishes? I could cook all day if someone would just follow me around and clean the dishes for me!
The other benefit is how fast it is to make. In less than 30 minutes, you’ve got a healthy mouthwatering meal ready to go! It’s perfect for those days you don’t know what to make or you just need something quick and easy!
If you are in to meal prepping, this is a great one! I have found not a lot of foods reheat well, but this one does! I almost always make extras so we can have it for lunch the next day.
If you try it out, be sure to let me know in the comments what you think!
