Quick & Easy Philly Cheesesteak Recipe

I still remember the first time I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It was the day of a friends wedding so it was a crazy busy. I was dating Austin at the time and he knew I hadn’t eaten all day so he came to bring me some food.

My first Philly cheesesteak. One bite and I was hooked. I love the flavor combination but a typical Philly cheesesteak sandwich is pretty high in fat so I created my own healthy version that’s just as delicious. If you have my cookbook, I have a similar recipe for a chicken Philly cheesesteak sandwich in there. I use chicken and use either a crockpot or my Instant Pot and that recipe is equally as good but if you’re going for the real thing, this skillet Philly cheesesteak recipe is so close to the real deal without all the added calories. #winning

This meal check all the boxes

This meal is delicious, healthy, quick, easy, and cheap! It’s everything I look for when I make a meal. You can make it easy and serve it on it’s own for a low carb meal. I usually double the portions if I do this. Or, serve it on your favorite bread or with a salad and fruit. I love making homemade artisan bread to serve it on but when I need really simple and quick, I will serve it on it’s own.

It’s It doesn’t take a lot of ingredients to make and it’s usually stuff I always have on hand so it’s perfect for those nights when you don’t have a lot of time or don’t know what to make.

Here’s what’s in this easy Philly Cheesesteak

  • Bell peppers: You can use any color of bell peppers and as many as you’d like. I like to use I love adding in veggies where I can so I usually use a pepper per serving.
  • Mushrooms: I love the flavor the mushrooms add. I’ve made it without them and it’s still delicious so if you don’t have them on hand or you’re not a mushroom fan, just eliminate them.
  • Cheese: You can use any type but I love it with provolone to swiss.
  • Ground beef: I use lean, grass-fed beef and that’s what I feel like tastes the most like a real Philly cheesesteak but I also love it with ground turkey.
  • Sweet onion: Any onion will work but the sweeter, the better!
