Best Morning Green Protein Shake or Post Workout Meal

I love starting my day with greens. I have this Green Shake or some variation of it daily.

It sets the tone for my whole day. It loaded with nutrients, super high in protein, keeps you full, and it’s delicious!

I like to do my workouts early in the morning before my baby wakes up. I usually get up and go to the gym and then come home and make this shake. It’s the perfect post-workout shake. I share it with my baby because he loves it as much as I do! It’s great for you other Mama’s that don’t have time to sit down and eat a meal or you working mama’s that need breakfast on-the-go!

What’s in my Green Shake:

  • Hemp hearts- hemp hearts are a staple for me. I add them to so many things; shakes, salads, oatmeal, granola bars, yogurt, etc. They add a yummy yet subtle flavor but they are also packed full of nutrients. They have s a surprising amount of protein, are a good source of healthy fats, and contain a lot of micronutrients like iron, potassium, zinc, calcium, folate, magnesium, and more.
  • Flaxseed– I love adding flaxseed because it is a great source of fiber. Adding this will help keep you full until lunch. Flaxseed are also a great source of healthy fats.
  • Spinach– I try to have veggies at all of my meals so added spinach to my shake is an easy way to get some veggies in at breakfast. Spinach is full of nutrients like; vitamin K, vitamin B2, manganese, folic acid, iron, calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin A.
  • Natural peanut butter– Peanut butter is probably in almost all of my non-entree recipes. We love peanut butter at our house. I like to use natural peanut butter to try and avoid any hydrogenated or partial hydrogenated oils and added sugar.
  • Pb powder– I add powdered peanut butter to get more of the peanut butter taste without adding too many calories.
  • Chocolate protein powder– My favorite protein is from Active Stacks. It’s the yummiest, creamiest chocolate. You can get it here and save with code TRAINER-KELLI.
  • Almond milk– Use your milk of preference.
  • Ice– optional.
  • Cinnamon– optional.
  • Banana– Optional. Adding half a banana adds a really good flavor if you’re a banana fan. When I am making one for the hubby I always add one but when it’s just for me I usually leave it out for fewer calories.

Best Morning Green Shake

Ingredients

  • 1-2 cups almond milk or milk of choice
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 1/2 tbsp flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp hemp hearts
  • 1 tbsp natural peanut butter I often use pb powder to bring the calories down but I love the peanut butter taste.
  • 1 large handful spinach
  • 1 handful ice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 banana optional

Instructions

  • Blend all ingredients.

My Blendtec and it honestly makes it so much easier. I used to have a Ninja and it wouldn’t blend it nearly as well. It was also harder to clean so I wouldn’t make it as often purely out of inconvenience. Once I made the switch to a Blendtec, the shake made my daily routine. They gave me a discount code for any Blendtec products if you are interested, TRAINERKELLI will get you 25% off anything. I don’t make anything off of you using my code so I am not trying to sell you something, I just genuinely love it!

Let me know if you try this Green Shake and what you think! If you liked this, check out some of my other recipes here.
